UV Vis Spectrophoto meter1

UV Vis Spectrophoto meter1

A UV-Vis spectrophotometer is an instrument used to measure the absorption of ultraviolet (UV) and visible light by a sample. It is a valuable tool in various scientific fields, including chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science.

Description

How it Works

  1. Light Source: The spectrophotometer generates a beam of light that spans the UV and visible wavelengths.
  2. Sample Cell: The sample is placed in a transparent cell that allows the light to pass through.
  3. Monochromator: The light is dispersed into its individual wavelengths using a monochromator.
  4. Detector: The detector measures the intensity of the light that passes through the sample.
  5. Absorption Calculation: The spectrophotometer calculates the absorbance of the sample based on the difference between the intensity of the incident light and the transmitted light.
  6. Data Analysis: The absorbance data is analyzed to determine the concentration of the analyte in the sample, using Beer-Lambert Law.

    Types of UV-Vis Spectrophotometers

    • Single-Beam Spectrophotometer: Uses a single light source and detector.
    • Double-Beam Spectrophotometer: Uses two light sources and detectors, allowing for simultaneous measurement of the sample and a reference.
